Topic: Civility in the Workplace

Program Description:

Environment where employees are treated fairly, differences are acknowledged and valued, communication is open and civil, conflict is addressed early, and there is a culture of empowerment and cooperation.


Biography:

Erin Miller serves as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Specialist at the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), where she creates cultures of belonging that celebrates individuals for being their authentic self. At TxDOT, Erin specializes in strategic policy and program development to change culture in the agency.

Erin began her career in The Gambia, West Africa serving as a US Peace Corps volunteer. Upon returning to the US, Erin joined the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to build diversity and inclusion into HRC’s leadership development, training, and recruitment for the organization’s board members and volunteers.

Erin enjoys spending time exploring with her fiancé Angela, and their two dogs Rogue and Gator.


Tapiwa Kuda Girton a Cincinnati, Ohio native, Tapiwa gained her passion for DEI from Toyota Motor Sales (17yrs). She later went to GE and assisted with creating diversity programs and trainings. She joined TxDOT (Dec 2020) as a DEI Program Specialist. Here, she works closely with the director on strategic planning, program development and implementation, building external relationships, and growing the reputation and trust of the newly formed DEI/ Inclusion section(s). In alignment with TxDOT’s mission to become a more diverse and inclusive workplace, her commitment to DEI and continuous improvement are the driving forces behind maintaining the Employee Resource Groups, growing memberships, developing leadership, co-creating/implementing a customized career growth mentoring programs, and providing support and development for each of the ERG’s leaders and members.


In her spare time, she enjoys all things family, watching and attending sporting events, exercising, cooking and reading.
