Guest Speaker:  Laci Edwards & Patricia Trejo
Topic: Employee Health: Community Diabetes Education Program
Program Description:   Employee Assistance Programs can span the gamut of pre-designed programs supported by your medical carriers to community resources which can help employees with the many health issues they may have.  Laci Edwards and Patricia Trejo will explain the programs available to your employees as well as focusing on diabetes which afflicts up to 20% of your workforce.
Diabetes is a chronic, debilitating and often deadly disease.  In the US, a new case of diabetes is diagnosed every 30 seconds with more than 1.9 million people being diagnosed each year.  Moreover, there is a seven year lapse from the time an individual is diagnosed with diabetes, to when they begin receiving diabetes education.
This session will explore the various aspects of the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District's Community Diabetes Education Program (CDEP) and what it is able to offer individuals that participate in the program.  Additionally, we would like to offer employers the opportunity to provide CDEP as part of their wellness packet in order to improve the health and lives of their employees with type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, or who are at risk of developing pre-diabetes.
