Guest Speaker: Penny Miller
Topic: The Care and Feeding of Supervisors
Program Description: Front-line managers are vitally important to organizations achieving their business objectives, yet companies have little or no plan for selecting, developing or supporting the people they put into these vital roles. In this presentation, we'll discuss how organizations can better prepare people for supervisory positions, select those more likely to succeed and offer training and support to help them support the organization effectively.
Speaker Biography: Penny Miller has over 30 years experience as a Human Resource professional.
During her 21-year career as an Air Force officer, Penny had the opportunity to work in a variety of positions, applying HR techniques under many different situations and circumstances. Her final assignment was as the Mission Support Squadron Commander (the HR manager for the base) at Sheppard AFB, Texas.
Since her retirement from the military in 2000, she has continued her career in executive search and corporate HR. Before starting her own business, she was the Director of Human Resources and the Co-Chief Operating Officer for a large multi-specialty medical clinic. She currently leads Venture HRO, LLC, specializing in providing HR services and consulting to business. Fully half of her practice involves training and coaching managers at all levels of the organization. Recently, she created The Supervisor Academy, an on-line supervisor training resource.
Penny is certified as a Society for Human Resource Management—Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). She is a frequent speaker on HR topics at SHRM chapters meetings and conferences. Penny is an adjunct instructor, teaching management courses for Wayland Baptist University and Midwestern State University. She is active on several city boards and commissions and nonprofit boards.
She and her husband, Bryan, have been married for 34 years and have two grown, married children and the best grandbaby ever.
