    “The Financial Wellness Program Conundrum”

    Speaker: Chris Thixton, QPA™ , QKC®

    Program Description:

Financial insecurity and stress are wreaking havoc on workers. It affects their mental and physical health, as well as their working lives, in numerous and detrimental ways.

In today's workplace, financial wellness is essential for both employee well-being and productivity. "The Financial Wellness Program Conundrum" examines the disconnect between employer-led financial wellness programs and the actual financial health of employees, shedding light on common pitfalls and often overlooked elements. This presentation challenges the status quo by introducing a new approach that prioritizes outcomes over activities. Attendees will gain the knowledge and tools needed to create a financially secure, healthy, and productive workforce.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Uncover essentials that set effective financial wellness programs apart.
    • Understand psychological and behavioral aspects for employee success.
    • Be cost effective and deliver needed results without expending unnecessary time and money.
    • Prioritize outcomes over activity to provide genuine financial wellbeing to employees.

      Speaker Bio:

Drawing on his extensive knowledge and experience, Chris advises employers, committees, and fiduciaries on how to enhance employee financial security—impacting both individual well-being and organizational success. Chris serves on the leadership council for the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA), one of five member organizations of the American Retirement Association based in Washington, D.C. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science from the College of Business Administration at Missouri State University. He is a Qualified Pension Administrator (QPATM) and Qualified 401(k) Consultant (QKC®). Chris has testified in Washington D.C. at the Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration on fiduciary matters related to fee disclosure as part of the Hearing on Reasonable Contracts or Arrangements. He has testified before the DOL’s ERISA Advisory Council. He also pioneered PCI’s vendor research system, providing in-depth service provider comparisons and benchmarking. He frequently leads workshops and private training sessions for fiduciary committees nationwide and has been a featured speaker at more than 100 industry conferences and programs.

Holds Qualified Pension Administrator (QPATM) and Qualified 401(k) Consultant (QKC®) designations.

"Unraveling the Myths and Misconceptions about Employer Health Plans & What’s Truly Driving High Renewal Costs"

      Speaker:

David Ross with Brown & Brown

Executive Vice President & Director of Underwriting Services

Program Description: Join us for this high-energy whiteboard session, where we'll delve into the complexities of medical plans. Although many popular ideas about medical plans are based on truths, the complicated issues involved are often misunderstood or oversimplified to the point of being false or misleading. This session seeks to provide a deeper understanding of how many decisions plan sponsors make often have unforeseen and detrimental consequences. As decision-makers, you are tasked with improving organizational health, satisfying recruitment/retention needs and managing the bottom line. This session presents a counterintuitive yet actionable approach to meeting these objectives.

      Learning Objectives:

         • How most health plan solutions will inevitably drive up costs for employers and  employees

         • Why you shouldn’t trust the solutions the industry is providing for increased Rx costs

         • How “best practices” are repelling the best talent and souring corporate culture

         •  How to structure your medical offering to increase the value of benefits and reduce costs

        Speaker Bio:

In a past life, Dave worked as an Underwriting Strategist at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota where he designed pricing methodologies that satisfied Blue Cross Blue Shield’s strategic objectives. During his tenure, Dave acted as an internal liaison between actuarial, underwriting and sales and assisted with BCBS’s lobbying efforts to expand the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) marketplace.

Today, Dave spends much of his time traveling around the country educating employers and legislative bodies on the many counterintuitive and nuanced components of effective healthcare cost management. A true educator, Dave uses a whiteboard to illustrate how many employers have been and continue to be misled by the industry resulting in unsustainably increasing healthcare costs for both employers and their employees.

Dave is the Director of Underwriting Services at Brown & Brown, where he develops and maintains financial tools and methodologies that improve customers’ ability to effectively manage their employer-sponsored health plans. Dave’s role keeps him actively involved in managing key accounts, representing more than 300,000 members across the country.
