One of the most sensitive and difficult situations HR professionals face is when an employee is talking about suicide, attempts suicide, or when helping coworkers recover in the aftermath of an attempt or actual suicide, whether at work or outside the work environment. This presentation is especially timely as the rate of workplace suicides continues to rise.

Topic: Suicide Prevention in the Workplace
Program Description:
In this presentation about suicide prevention, participants will learn about the warning signs, risk factors, and statistics of suicide. They will be educated about what to do, how to help, and what resources to utilize with someone who is struggling with suicidal thoughts. Dealing with the aftermath of a suicide will also be discussed.

Speaker Biography:
Dr. Wendy Helmcamp is an Assistant Professor in Counseling at Midwestern State University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in Texas. She obtained her doctorate degree in 2018 from Texas Tech University. Her experience includes working as a secondary school counselor and working on the Child/Adolescent Unit at a psychiatric hospital. She is married and has a 13-year old son. Her research interests include non-suicidal self-injury, online learning, children and adolescents, and the LGBTQ population.
